Tax Season is Here …and So Are Free Income Tax Clinics!

February 28, 2023 (Bracebridge, ON) – With the 2023 tax-filing season upon us, the District of Muskoka is pleased to announce the return of the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP).

The CVITP is based on people helping people. The District registered with the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and works with community partners and volunteers to host free tax clinics across Muskoka. Volunteers file tax returns for eligible people with a modest income and a simple tax situation.

“Residents need to file their taxes in order to receive important government benefits and credits like the Ontario Child Benefit, the GST credit, Old Age Security and more” said Nancy Alcock, Chair of the Community and Planning Services Committee.  “Last year our tax clinic volunteers completed more than 1700 tax returns, so we know many residents in Muskoka are relying on these clinics to help with their financial security. We are so grateful for the time and effort of our volunteers and community partners who help District staff deliver these clinics to the people who need them most.”
