TICO board approves 14 claims against Comp Fund – Travelweek

TORONTO — TICO’s board of directors recently approved 14 claims against the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund totalling $51,809 to assist 24 consumers who did not receive the travel services for which they had paid.

The approved Comp Fund claims are as follows …

  • Active Journeys Inc.
    3 claims to assist 6 consumers, totalling $2,700
  • Crystal Cruises
    5 claims to assist 8 consumers, totalling $25,174
  • Luxury Travel Centre Inc.
    1 claim to assist 2 consumers, totalling $2,640
  • The 5700 Inc.
    1 claim to assist 2 consumers, totalling $1,795
  • The Travel Broker Group Inc.
    1 claim to assist 1 consumer, totalling $5,000
  • World Travel Inc.
    3 claims to assist 5 consumers, totalling $14,500

In addition, the following claims were denied:

  • Jet Airways
    One claim was denied as it was received beyond the legislated filing deadline date.
  • Rejoice Holidays Inc.
    One claim was denied as it did not contain documentation in order to support the claim. Another claim was denied as the consumer cancelled a non-refundable ticket.
  • World Travel Inc.
    Three claims were denied as they lacked documentation and the non-provision of services was not due to the bankruptcy or insolvency of World Travel Inc.
